1. An estimated 73,000 people were living with HIV in the UK at the end of 2006, of whom a third were unaware of their infection.
  2. In 2007, there were at least 6,393 new diagnoses of HIV, contributing to a cumulative total of 93,231 reported by the end of 2007.
  3. There have been 23,596 diagnoses of AIDS in the UK. At least 17,932 people diagnosed with HIV have died, and at least 80% of these deaths followed an AIDS diagnosis.
  4. World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection.
